VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Convention and Visitor Board
The City of Guthrie is seeking applicants for a volunteer to serve on the Guthrie Convention and Visitor Board. The Convention and Visitor Board will give direction to and recommendations of activities of the Guthrie Tourism Department, which is established to promote general interest in and for the City of Guthrie, to improve conditions of all types of businesses in and around Guthrie by increasing visitors and tourism in Guthrie; and to promote Guthrie as a meeting place and overnight visitor destination.

The Convention and Visitor Board will meet on a monthly basis to provide direction and conduct business activities pertaining to the visitors and tourism for the Guthrie area. The Guthrie Convention and Visitor Board will consist of seven (7) members chosen by the City Council, three (3) members nominated by each ward and four at-large members. Board members must be Guthrie residents for at least one year. One position is available to fill an unexpired At-Large term ending September 2018.

Forestry Advisory Board Volunteer

The City of Guthrie is requesting applications for persons interested in volunteering to serve on the Forestry Advisory Board. One position is available to fill unexpired terms. All Board and Commission appointments require residency within the City of Guthrie. This volunteer will be appointed at-large by the Mayor with approval of the City Council.
The Forestry Advisory Board serves in an advisory capacity to the City Council on issues regarding the City's development of a community forestry plan and improvement of the urban forest resources within the City. Applicants are chosen based on interest and/or expertise in urban forestry. The Board meets bi-monthly.

Applications are available in the City Manager's office, 3rd floor of City Hall, 101 N. Second St., Guthrie, Oklahoma.

Library Board Members Wanted

The Guthrie Public Library Board meets quarterly on the third Thursday of January, April, July, and October, and serves in an advisory capacity to the City Council on all matters concerning the Guthrie Public Library. Ordinance No. 2678 requires the Guthrie Library Board to consist of five (5) citizens of the City of Guthrie who have been residents within the corporate limits for at least one year. All members are appointed by the Mayor and approved by City Council. 

There are three openings to fill three 3-year terms expiring in May 2020.

Responsibilities: 
- Establish the policies of the library. 
- Assist the director in administering the library through established board committees. 
- Engage in short and long-range planning for the library 
- Serve as library advocates by promoting the library at all times through their daily activities.

Planning Commission Volunteer

The City of Guthrie is requesting applications for persons interested in volunteering to serve on the Guthrie Planning Commission. One position is open to fill 3-year term. Applicants must reside within the City of Guthrie and will be appointed at-large by the City Council. The Planning Commission reviews and makes recommendation to the City Council on zoning codes, subdivision requirements, and land use as directed by the Comprehensive Plan. Applications are available online or may be printed and turned in to the Planning Department, 2nd floor of City Hall, 101 N. 2nd St., Guthrie.

Transportation Authority Volunteer

The City of Guthrie is requesting applications for persons interested in volunteering to serve on the Transportation Authority. The Transportation Authority was established to furnish and supply facilities, property and equipment to the citizens of Guthrie for the benefit of transportation needs regarding tourism and economic development. One position is available for a 3-year term. The positions require residency within the boundaries of the Guthrie Public School District and will be appointed by current members of the Transportation Authority. Meetings are scheduled for the second Tuesday of each quarter at 6:00 pm in City Hall.

    Historic Preservation Commission

    The Historic Preservation Commission has an opening for an individual to serve having special knowledge or background of the history and architecture of the city of Guthrie. Under §5.4 of the Historic Preservation Ordinance, residency within city limits is not a requirement, but preference is given to applicants meeting criteria that are Guthrie residences. These positions will be appointed at-large by the Mayor through approval of the City Council.  Applications are available at or may be printed and turned in to the Planning/Community and Economic Development Department, 3rd floor of City Hall, 101 N. 2nd St., Guthrie.
