Adopt a Street
What is the Adopt a City Street program?
Guthrie's Adopt a Street program began in April 2016 as an initiative to revitalize neighborhoods through public participation in beautification efforts - specifically through removal of trash along City streets and roadways. You and your organization can help!
How do I get involved?
1. Contact the Public Works Administrative Assistant at 405-282-8400 or via email with the name and portion of the street(s) your organization wishes to adopt. Adoptions are for a minimum of two (2) years, and must be for one (1) mile of roadway or greater to be considered.
2. Once availability of the street(s) selected is verified, an information packet (PDF) will be sent to the group's contact person. The information packet will include the application and agreement that needs to be completed and returned to the Public Works Administrative Assistant at the Public Works Office located at 407 Commerce Blvd., or faxed to (405) 282-0091.
3. Upon receipt of your completed information packet, you will be contacted to set up your first cleanup date. Cleanup should take place at least four (4) times a year, with one of these cleanups scheduled during the annual Trash-Off in April.
4. To allow adequate time for scheduling, contact the City two weeks prior to each cleanup date. The City of Guthrie will provide trash bags and bright safety vests. Vests need to be returned within two days after cleanup is completed. After your first cleanup is completed, the City will install an Adopt-a-Street recognition sign for your organization.
Volunteers under the age of 18 may participate with the approval and signature of a parent or guardian and under supervision. For health and safety, children under the age of 11 may not participate as a volunteer, nor be present along the adopted street, in the street, or along the street right-of-way.
